Come on down to the Fox and Firkin to witness the beautiful sound that The Allergies provide! Think funk, soul and dancing until you can’t no more.

After breaking onto the scene with a Mixmag ‘Tune of the Month’, The Allergies (DJ Moneyshot and Rackabeat) continued in their mission to bring re-fuelled funk and feel good hip-hop to the masses. The three LPs that followed, on Brighton’s Jalapeno Records, were sonic steps forward for the pair, winning them die-hard fans and BBC 6 Music ‘Album of the Day’ and ‘Album of the Year’ awards along the way – Diplomats of Sound.

MY FIRST BOOK OF DRUM AND BASS – this great new book for the very youngest DnB fans is launching at the event! A brilliantly fun and attractive book for all generations to enjoy together, it has the support of legends such as London Elektricty. The author Charlie Wright will be on hand to sign copies (available to buy on the day at a BFLF discounted rate of £10) and also show his credentials by doing a warm up set for Aphrodite.

T&Cs

If the event is unable to proceed due to covid regulations all ticket holders will be offered a free transfer to another event or a full refund.
Parents remain responsible for their children at all times.
For families with younger children (8s and under) though all ages are welcome.
Adults are not admitted unless accompanied by a child.
Each member of your group must have a ticket and pre-walking infants free (but ticketed). Will cost more on the door (if tickets available).
A max of 3 children per adult. If in a large group then one adult per two children please. If there are more than 4 adults per child in your group please email info@bigfishlittlefishevents.co.uk for pre-approval before buying tickets.
Tickets are non-refundable but can be transferred/sold on and if anybody with tickets finds they cannot attend a sold-out event please email info@bigfishlittlefishevents.co.uk and BFLF will sell on to people seeking to buy tickets.
Please be aware that events are standing/dancing with limited seating, club lighting rigs (no strobes) are used and events are busy with around 600 people at each party – which helps create the rave ambience. Each event is stewarded and risk assessed in advance.
Buggies must be left in buggy park and will not be allowed on the dance floor.
We may photograph or film small parts of the event and by entering you are giving your permission for these to be used for BFLF promotion purposes.
Please be aware that BFLF is designed to provide a family friendly, authentic club experience and is not a traditional children’s party or disco.
There is no kids music, nor games, nor DJ shout outs. The effect is to give families unity on the dancefloor – dancing together.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
All ages welcome but acitivities are designed with 0-8 years olds in mind. Music is played at safe levels for everyone.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There is plenty of public transport options and some parking in nerby residential areas.

What’s the refund policy?
There is a no refund policy but if you are unable to attend you may sell your tickets to someone else. If well in advance of a sold out event please email info@bigfishlittlefishevents.co.uk so we can try and match you with someone on the waiting list.

How loud will it be?
BFLF sets and monitors the volume using World Health Organisation guidelines – so that is it at a safe level for everyone, even the youngest babies, over the 2.5 hour duration of the event. Though quieter than at adult events, it is still loud enough to feel like you are at a club. Most parents do not use ear defenders on their children but if yours are particularly sensitive to noise or if you want them to nap then you might want to consider it.

Legendary Local Heroes

This promises to be a historic occasion, as it features the great Neville King on the wheels of steel. The renowned producer was born in St James, Jamaica. Neville’s Soundsystem had long residencies in Brixton, Tooting, Peckham and Streatham during the 1970s. During those times he was a mentor to Blacker Dread, Levi Roots and David Rodigan. He’s the Godfather of music of Jamaican origin in The Borough.

Neville King launched his own label in London in 1976 and quickly struck gold. He issued exceptional roots material by Prince Lincoln and the Royal Rasses and Jacob Miller. Neville also released his own lover’s rock productions. His works, on the King and City label, by local heroes One Blood are particularly sought after; “Be Thankful” having assumed classic status. A great friend of the D.D.C., Mr. King’s work holds a special place for us.

Throughout this event we’ll be spinnin’ classic, vintage music of Jamaican origin, from Ska, Rocksteady and deep roots Reggae, stretchin’ right through to, as yet unreleased, modern exclusives. In addition to our guest star, all of the usual D.D.C. massive will be along for this one. Early on, an extra special guest will be personing the decks in fine style. She’ll be followed by resident selector Soft Wax.

He will be joined by a host of guests supplementing the vinyls with vocals and instrumentation. Following the success of our semi-live sessions, we will be welcoming back our fine, fresh, horns section. We’ll also be featuring our mighty Singjay Doc Murdoch on live vocals throughout and he’ll be join with guests on the mic..

Included in this event will be an interactive display about Rebel Music in Lewisham.

An enhanced sound system, engineered by the great Prince Fatty, is a feature of this popular night, held in a convivial boozer. The palatial, discrete garden will feature Rocksteady all afternoon and have the evening session piped out to it. Put on your dancing shoes.

An underlying passion for jazz, reggae and funk leads his sound on a deep and soulful route through underground dance music. A love of obscurity and danceability underpins this. Laurence runs Ooz label + brand, resident at Palace Vinyl and has worked for Cigarette Records for a number of years.

DJ Andy Smith and Nick Halkes (aka Nick Reach Up) drop 80s disco, boogie and proto house,evoking the spirit of legendary NYC clubs such as Paradise Garage and Studio 54. They’ll dip into the rich soundtrack that emerged as the 70s turned into the 80s forming the DNA of today’s club music and mesh the set with the freshest productions, remixes and re-edits that they have sourced or can find!

As schooldays best friends Andy and Nick ran a mobile disco together and hunted for bargain 12 inch vinyl in their childhood home town of Portishead near Bristol. At this point they had no idea that Andy would supply beats and tour the world with Portishead before becoming one of the top 100 djs in the world nor that Nick would go on to set up the XL and Positiva labels becoming one of the UK’s most respected dance and electronic music industry executives.

Reach Up launched more than five years ago at London basement venue The Waiting Rooms and soon after appeared at Carl Cox’s night at Space, Ibiza where they played for three seasons on the bounce and then also began packing out their monthly London residency at Peckham’s South London Soul Train (hosted at the legendary Bussey Building).The chaps 2018 Summer festival tour took in Bestival, Boardmasters, Eastern Electrics, Kendall Calling, Bluedot and an 8 hour take over at Festival No6. 2019 and 2020 saw them spread the good vibes in Lisbon, Berlin and back out on the festival circuit at Shindig, Beautiful Days and beyond.

Despite knowing each other for decades, maybe this is still just the start for Nick and Andys Reach Up Disco Wonderland adventure?!

As part of this year’s festival, Brockley Max will be hosting a FREE PARTY AT LEWISHAM’S LEGENDARY FOX & FIRKIN ON SUNDAY 29TH MAY 2022 featuring a host of live acts and djs who have appeared at the festival over the years.

Veteran blues/country singer CERI JAMES,

Ceri has been playing and organising Brockley Max events for almost 20 years. Starting around 2004 at Moonbow Jakes cafe. He helped compile a CD of Brockley based artists/musicians in 2006 called Brockley Max Trax II 2006. Various other events have included a singer/songwriter night in 2016 and an event at the cafe on Hilly Fields during the pandemic.

Lewisham-based militant rock and roots reggae band, THE FOUR FATHERS,

The Four Fathers have been proud to be involved in several Brockley Max events since forming in 2014, playing at ‘Art in the Park’ in 2015 and on the opening night in 2017, and organising two festival events in 2018 and 2019 at the Chandos and at Brockley Social Club. Lead singer Andy Worthington, who was involved in the earliest ‘Art in the Park’ events, and who also promoted his book ’The Battle of the Beanfield’ at an event in 2005, recalls how the creation of the festival was extraordinarily helpful in bringing Brockley’s artists and creative people together.

And also from Lewisham, ‘cosmic’ country band, THE TRUE BELIEVERS fronted by musical comedian Steve Gribbin and local legend Alice Renouf. The True Believers have been part of Brockley Max since we formed in 2016, and have played every year since. It’s such a great Festival celebrating the best of Brockley & Lewisham, a real good vibe to it. We especially enjoyed playing The Opening Night gigs in 2016, 2017 and 2018, including one where a torrential downpour made our gig into a Dangerous Sport! We loved playing in the Front Garden last year, our answer to The Beatles on The Rooftop. There’s something about music played outdoors that is magical, and this did not disappoint. There was a great atmosphere, a beautiful sunny day & loads of people in our street, even a small child dancing! The very essence of Brockley Max!!

And coming all the way from Memphis Tennessee for the party, energetic southern rapper, COLDWAY who last appeared at the festival in 2019. My first time traveling internationally was to travel to London to perform at the Brockley Max Festival. I felt so welcomed by the community and it continues to be one of the best experiences I’ve had.

Felix’s Rock Choir (FRC) sprung from Felix’s School of Rock (FSOR) in 2007 – originally something for young rockers’ parents to do. They’ve performed over 100 songs at over 100 pubs, clubs, schools and special events doing mostly singalong friendly Rock, Pop & Soul. FRC has enjoyed appearing at Brockley Max many times.

The celebrations will be rounded off with funk tunes from DJ mR tiDy, one of South London’s longest standing vinyl DJ’s who’s deejayed for Brockley Max festival numerous times over the years.
