Gaz Mayall DJ’s and hosts London’s longest running one-nighter Gaz’s Rockin Blues. He occasionally plays live with his ska band The Trojans. He first began Gaz’s Rockin’ Blues in July 1980 after a few guest appearances at the Two-Tone club, Oxford Street in 1979.

Dat Brass: (Brass band/Jazztronica/Hiphop/Dnb)

dB cut their teeth in the mud UK festival circuit and on the sticky floors of London clubs, evolving into a turbo-charged 10-piece hip-hop jazztronica outfit playing reflective originals that show off the best in drum and brass. They rep an unholy number of horns on the front line, backed up by the tightest scratch DJ, sousaphone and drum rhythm section this side of the millennium. Every tune is layered with breathless improvisation, meaning dB have built a big reputation as pioneers of one of the freshest sounds London has to offer. They’ve opened up the Truth Stage at Glasto, sold out a hometown headline show at Jazz Cafe and supported the likes of Roni Size, Plastician, and DJ Yoda.

They’ve just released their self-titled debut album, a distillation of their sound, packed with features and solos from the crew.

Binbag Wisdom: (Hiphop/Funk/Festival)

Bin Bag Wisdom make golden-era Hip Hop that is transformed into clever modern-day observations on society, simultaneously abstract and astute. Driven by the towering delivery of Mc Binbags these guys never fail to get the crowd jumping, and yet there music enters realms much deeper than purely party music.

With intelligent rhymes and a rare knack of being both self assured and self-deprecating their music is equally as powerful when kicking back in the armchair and absorbing their witty realism. Essentially Binbag Wisdom achieve what so much modern rap doesn’t – original, insightful, playful and banging!

DJ Aphrodite
DJ Aphrodite has been a mainstay of the Worldwide Rave Scene since the early nineties. For each country around the world with a Drum & Bass scenes, DJ Aphrodite has produced anthems. ‘Ganja Man’, ‘King Of The Beats’, ‘Style From The Darkside’, ‘All Over Me’, ‘Summer Breeze’, ‘Dub Moods’ and ‘Stalker’ from the infamous record shop scene in movie ‘Human Traffic’, ‘ Mash Up You Know’, ‘Booyaa’ and ‘We Enter’, to name just a few solo compositions have all graced Junglist and DnB playlists everywhere.

Starting with Urban Shakedown and together producing the huge rave anthem ‘Some Justice’ Aphrodite became a prolific producer being an integral part of creating a string of Jungle and Drum & Bass Classics of which more than a dozen had UK and European mainstream chart success. Throughout the millennium Aphrodite’s Artist and DJ Mix albums notched up half a million sales worldwide and his popularity as one of the world’s Drum & Bass icons was forged with consistent performances and now delivering multiple 4-deck mixing to all crowds be them 30,000 or 300 strong.

Nicky Blackmarket
Nicky Blackmarket is one of the original pioneers of drum and bass, and he is still the most faithful soldier for the scene around the world. His early influences came from his mother’s background in the jazz scene, and it is improvisation and variety that characterise his DJ performances throughout his career.

In the mid-nineties Nicky pushed the hardcore scene with a regular show on Pulse FM and performances at the Roller Express. He moved into production, making his first record “Spam EP”, along with various remixes and releases on his label Gyroscope Records. He hosted shows on Eruption FM and started the label ‘Kartoons’ featuring the anthem ‘Two Degrees’, confirming his status as a central force in the scene.

Uncle Dugs (UK Jungle Set)
Award winning Jungle / DnB DJ, Promoter and Author originally from Dagenham, Essex.

Dugs (as he is more commonly known) started his DJ career back in 1991 with his first pirate radio show in January 1995 on a local station called Conflict FM (89.4 then 88.4). Went on to host radio shows on many stations most notably including Kool FM 2006-2011) and Rinse FM 199-2006 / 2011-present) as both a pirate and licensed station.

Deemas J
Deemas J is known for his Reggae and Drum and Bass style and is also a prominent figure in the Garage and House circuit. Primarily known as an MC, he has also become an established vocalist, recording everything from Funk, Drum and Bass to Reggae music. After Wrongtom’s release, ‘Duppy Writer’ with Roots Manuva, Wrongtom collaborated with Deemas J for his next album, ‘Wrongtom meets Deemas J in East London’ which garnered 4 to 5 star ratings in Q Magazine, Mojo, Rolling Stone and others. He works alongside sound systems such as Unit 137, Reggae Roast and Solution Sound, as well as artists such as Manudigital, Daddy G (Massive Attack), Nicky Blackmarket, Ras Kwame, DJ Shepdog (Nice Up records), Count Skylarkin’, Don Letts, Pied Piper, EZ, Kenny Ken, Tenoshi, Sleepy Time Ghost, Hylu (Unit 137) and more. His songs have been remixed by artists such as Ed Solo, Wickaman, Benny Page and Mo’Matic.
You can catch Deemas J performing with Manudigital at Notting Hill Carnival every year. He also features at many other British, Irish and European festivals such as Electric Picnic in Ireland, Boomtown, Guernsey and Meet the Beats in Germany.

We are thrilled to announce our first FAMILY RAVE at The Fox & Firkin. Our venue has undergone significant changes recently and now has a magnificent outdoors garden – with a large tented area – that has a strong festival vibe. Loads of space and all one level for us to rave in!

DRUM AND BASS SPECIAL – DnB legend DJ Aphrodite will be on the decks!

Dance together on a dance floor filled with bubbles, balloons, glitter and topped by the parachute dance in our huge outdoor garden!

Get super crafty on the Captain Cookie Craft tables and enjoy the Villa Pia baby chill out or play areas.

T&Cs

– If the event is unable to proceed due to covid regulations all ticket holders will be offered a free transfer to another event or a full refund.

– Parents remain responsible for their children at all times.

– For families with younger children (8s and under) though all ages are welcome. Adults are not admitted unless accompanied by a child.
– Each member of your group must have a ticket and pre-walking infants free (but ticketed). Will cost more on the door (if tickets available).
– A max of 3 children per adult. If in a large group then one adult per two children please. If there are more than 4 adults per child in your group please email info@bigfishlittlefishevents.co.uk for pre-approval before buying tickets.
– Tickets are non-refundable but can be transferred/sold on and if anybody with tickets finds they cannot attend a sold-out event please email info@bigfishlittlefishevents.co.uk and BFLF will attempt to put you in touch with people seeking to buy tickets.
– Please be aware that events are standing/dancing with limited seating, club lighting rigs (no strobes) are used and events are busy with around 600 people at each party – which helps create the rave ambience. Each event is stewarded and risk assessed in advance.
– Buggies must be left in buggy park and will not be allowed on the dance floor.
– We may photograph or film small parts of the event and by entering you are giving your permission for these to be used for BFLF promotion purposes.
– Please be aware that BFLF is designed to provide a family friendly, authentic club experience and is not a traditional children’s party or disco. There is no kids music, nor games, nor DJ shout outs. The effect is to give families unity on the dancefloor – dancing together.

For this, much anticipated event The Deptford Dub Club features the original Moa Anbessa Soundsystem. They are a classic, late 70s, deep roots, collective. This session will feature foundation members Man Fi Bill and Wolfman. Back in the day, Moa Anbessa were such a significant Sound that they were name-checked in Steve McQueen’s “Small Axe”. Expect roots reggae at its very best, in traditional style and fashion, with a full and mighty rig, indoors, in the evening.

Moa Anbessa ceased regular operations in the very early 80s, despite their enormous popularity. So it’s a real coup to get them back, live and in the house; spinning 70s and early-80s Rasta reggae classics and plenty of exclusive dubplates. (NB. This is not the modern Italian Soundsystem with the same name, but the real deal. There’s a fuller band-biog. of the legends at the foot.)

Warm up selection will come from lion youths Duppy Sista Sound, from 6. Resident Soft Wax will be on the decks too. He’ll be joined by Doc Murdoch’s distinctive live vocal stylings – his vocal presence has become a feature of the D.D.C. Joining them will be a live brass section, including club stalwart Wicked Will on trumpet and a fresh talent, Humble B, on sax and more.

All afternoon we’ll be featuring Rocksteady in the fabulous garden at this convivial boozer. Yes sir, they’ll be warming up the big rastaman dub machine outside from lunchtime onwards until 6. The new awning guarantees your shelter outdoors.

We will be playing the best in foundation Jamaican roots music; from Ska, through Rocksteady and classic, vintage Reggae, to the present, throughout this extended event. All the selectors will be digging extra deep into their musical dub-baskets for this event. This session is bound to be really kicking; so put on your dancing shoes and celebrate the rhythm.
The Deptford Dub Club happens every month, on the penultimate Sunday and is FREE ’til 6 and then £3 until 12.

The original Moa Anbessa
Hailing from Battersea; Moa Anbessa first played out at the beginning of 1977. Its core members served their apprenticeships with the even more venerable Lord David Sound. The classic 70s Moa Anbessa System was founded by former members of Lord David’s and played against all of the other great Sounds of the era, as well as with more diverse out-fits, like The Slits.

Moa Anbessa quickly gained a reputation as one of the most prominent Rasta-oriented Sounds in Britain, gaining residencies at historic venues such as Club Norick, the Four Aces, Studio 200 and others – nuff said. Their affiliated record label issued tracks by Creation Steppers, Jah Thomas, Delton Screechie, Early B, Little John and King Everald, among others. Their performance will be a truly historical conclusion to our day of Reggae, Rocksteady and Ska.

The Great Malarkey

Influenced by the likes of Tom Waits, Pixies, The Pogues, Beirut, Nick Cave, Fanfare Ciocărlia, Manu Chao, The Dead Brothers and Toots & The Maytals (the latter of whom they supported with only their third gig), The Great Malarkey are a riotous mix of musical styles delivered in a “multicultural train of fast beats and trembling slams of punk-folk spirit.” Expect punchy sounds, raucous energy and rambunctiousness!

Bomo Swing

The Bomo Swing comes bouncing out of Bournemouth, an eight piece band renowned for its high energy and unique blend of Balkan, Reggae, Cumbia and dance. All powered by sizzling Latin drums, jazz influenced bass lines and topped off with spirited gypsy violin. Their upbeat performance and passion will bring a smile to your face and have you dancing your worries away as you enjoy the fiesta with them.

Powello Bros

Intergalactic space goats, brothers and partners in crime, the Powello Bros! These two goat lovin’ producers & turntable wizards are hitting up dancefloors high and low with their derpy mashup extravaganza… Expect high energy and questionable dancing with these guys bringing out the inner cross-stitch champion in everyone!

In their spare time they run the worst party this side of the Milky Way, known as House of Funk, are owners of The Roller DisGoat.
They also enjoy the odd spin with Mammoth Soundsystem, It’s a Swing Thing, Swing & Bass and are residents for The Ale House & Pitcher & Piano in Taunton.
