SUMMARY:The Orb’s Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld Live in London
DESCRIPTION:Altered States present \nThe Orb’s Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld – Live in London \nJoin us at our beautiful boutique home venue\, The Fox in Lewisham\, as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of this seminal album. \nWe’ll be welcoming a stellar lineup of supporting artists across both the indoor and outdoor spaces. For now\, we’re excited to reveal that System 7 will be joining us – with more special guests to be announced soon. \nThe Orb are on stage at 22:00\, but the event will also carry on into the early hours. \nGrab your ticket while you can! \nMusic starts at 5pm\, but come early !! \n– \nThe Orb’s Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld wasn’t just an album\, it was a dimensional rift\, a gentle cosmic shockwave that rewired what electronic music could be. \nIn 1991\, when rave culture was accelerating toward harder\, faster sounds\, The Orb – Alex Paterson with key collaborators like Jimmy Cauty (KLF)\, Kris Weston\, Youth\, and the unmistakable presence of vocalists and sample-spirits such as Andy Falconer and the mighty Steve Hillage\, chose a different path. Instead of going up in energy\, they went out\, drifting deep into a panoramic\, slow-motion universe of ambient textures\, dub weight\, and starlit imagination. \nThis album expanded the idea of a “dance record” into something borderless and cinematic. It blended environmental soundscapes\, spoken-word fragments\, psychedelic guitar lines\, and oceanic bass into tracks that didn’t just play—they unfolded. It felt like a broadcast from a parallel dimension\, where clubs were observatories and the dancefloor was a launchpad pointed toward inner and outer space. \nIt changed the music industry by proving that electronic music could be both experimental and popular\, that audiences were hungry for long-form journeys rather than just singles or DJ tools. It elevated sampling into an artform\, challenged genre boundaries\, and helped carve out a new\, enduring landscape: ambient house. That entire wave\, including The KLF’s Chillout works\, Future Sound of London\, The Irresistible Force\, even the modern downtempo and chill-electronic scenes\, can trace a constellation line back to Ultraworld. \nThe album showed that electronic music could be meditative\, emotional\, humorous\, deeply weird\, and profoundly beautiful. It invited listeners not to dance\, but to drift. Not to escape the world\, but to imagine another one entirely. \nMore than thirty years later\, Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld still feels like a map to someplace unexplored\, a reminder that boundaries are invitations\, genres are suggestions\, and music can be as vast as the cosmos if you let it breathe.

I’m collaboration with producer Ali Jamieson (Clipse\, Bonobo\, Bombay Bicycle Club)\, their upcoming EP “Call Me\, Sister”\, recorded at Echo Ray Studios and due for release in April 2026\, captures the vibrancy of the unique stylistic blend that defines their live shows.\n\n\n \n\n\n+ Support from Danger Goat: The world’s greatest bombastic bodacious swashbuckling latin-infused folkloric jazz-fusion brass band.

SUMMARY:ShadeINDIGO hosted by Cherise
DESCRIPTION:ShadeINDIGO (founded by Jazz/Soul vocalist CHERISE) and the Fox and Firkin come together for a collaborative series of live showcases\, with a shared belief in spotlighting excellent musicians who create with purpose and passion. Rooted in community and craft\, these events celebrate emerging talent in a great night of live music!   On our first installation we have 2 exciting artists: \nBen Cipolla is a singer and guitarist whose music blends soulful vocals\, jazzy textures\, and acoustic pop warmth. Like Nick Drake\, he brings melodic subtlety and quiet intensity to his playing\, while echoing John Martyn’s adventurous textures and Jack Johnson’s easygoing charm. His versatile repertoire spans jazz standards\, bossa nova classics\, and reimagined pop favourites\, keeping a natural fusion of genres at the heart of his sound. Based in Bristol and inspired by his Sicilian heritage\, Cipolla has released two acclaimed albums\, including Casa Mia\, and is preparing his third for release in 2026. \nPianist and composer Emily Tran is one of the most exciting young jazz artists emerging from the London scene. Since joining the ever-growing community of Tomorrow’s Warriors\, she has developed a versatile musical voice and has played in a range of ensembles in venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall\, Ronnie Scott’s and the Barbican. She has arranged and played for the Nu Civilisation Orchestra and wrote the original score for BBC Radio 3’s ‘Gatsby in Harlem’\, which won 3 awards at the British Audio Awards\, one being the prestigious Audio of The Year. Alongside playing with other artists\, her solo project\, The Emily Tran Quintet\, is a sonic collage of influences \, shedding light on her varied musical upbringing – from playing piano and organ in the Vietnamese Church as a child\, to more recently studying classical composition at the Royal Academy of Music. Her versatility has made her an in-demand player and composer and has seen her play at Love Supreme Festival\, Brick Lane Jazz Festival and We Out Here. The music is spirited\, with a quiet intensity that makes the band one to watch out for!

SUMMARY:Cutashine St Patrick's Day Ceili
DESCRIPTION:Cut A Shine ventures to South London – AGAIN!!!!\nFriends! It was so much fun last time\, we just have to do it again! What a lovely bunch of dancers and friends. See you for a mid week dance on actual St Patrick’s Day!.. we’re be focussing on Irish Ceili Dances and having a wee stout. The pub is perfect for a dance – they take out some furniture and we rip it up on the massive dance floor. Can’t wait! \n \n~~~ \nAbout The Dancing\nAlthough called many things; Ceilidh\, Country Dance\, Barn Dance\, Ceili Dance\, Square Dance\, Set Dancing – one thing is certain\, it’s all “traditional” and how people would entertain themselves before TV and raves. We have a live band on stage to provide the music\, and a “Dance Caller”\, who is expert at teaching you all the simple and fun moves. First we learn the dance by walking through it with the caller\, then the band strike up\, and we dance to the music. You don’t need any experience\, just willingness to have a go and have fun. \nInclusivity and Diversity\nOur dances are All Inclusive\, regardless of age\, gender\, ability\, ethnicity or sexual orientation. Although based largely on traditional European and American dance forms\, we welcome all cultures and peoples to enjoy these dances and culture. We have tailored our dances to be non-heteronormative and involve everyone. We welcome members of the LGBTQ+ community. \nIt’s a Dance!\nA gentle reminder\, please wear appropriate footwear\, as this is a vigorous dance session! No heels! It’s also an “old fashioned” dance\, where you have a dancing partner (sometimes 2!) and have to hold hands sometimes. There is physical contact.

SUMMARY:The Big Firkin Band + The Soul Bones Shout Band
DESCRIPTION:A unique double-bill of London’s finest players running from day-night\, and it’s still free entry!  \nThe Big Firkin Band (15:30 – 18:00) \nIt’s the Fox and Firkin’s very own bespoke Big Band! That is big\, and it’s a band. \nThe Big Firkin Band is a collective of world class jazz musicians\, based in Lewisham and South East London\, who come together once a month to perform classic Big Band music made famous by the great bands of Duke Ellington\, Count Basie\, Buddy Rich\, Thad Jones\, Stan Kenton and Woody Herman. \nExpect to hear the greatest tunes from the golden age of jazz and swing performed by the best musicians in London\, all in a relaxed and comfortable fashion at The Fox & Firkin on a Sunday afternoon. \nEvery 2nd Sunday of the month\, 3.30 – 6pm. Food available. Family and dog friendly! \nThe Soul Bones Shout Band (18:30 – 21:30) \nThe Soul Bones are inspired by the trombone ‘shout bands’ that play in churches in the USA:  Massed groups of trombones\, with sousaphone and drums\, that play gospel music.  The sound is powerful and inspiring.  Because the bands largely perform in churches for religious occasions\, and there have been limited recordings the music isn’t as widely known as the brass bands from the New Orleans tradition.  There are no bands like it performing in the UK\, so we realised the only way to experience the sound was to form a band.\n\nGraham Hughes has gathered together a group of a dozen or so leading trombone players from London to create his own version of a trombone shout band.  The music is perfect for dark winter nights when you need something to raise your spirits.  The Soul Bones are non-religious – we only wish to convert our listeners to the positivity and joy of massed trombones and great live music.  We guarantee you won’t hear anything else like it in London!

SUMMARY:Save Lewisham Shopping Centre Campaign Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:HANDS OFF LEWISHAM SHOPPING CENTRE! \nThe Lewisham Peoples Assembly’s has organised a fundraiser for affordable housing and the Save Lewisham Shopping Centre campaign. \nJoin us on Monday\, 26 January for a fun night of bands\, comedy\, and solidarity. All proceeds raised will help pay for campaign costs to stop gentrification and social cleansing in the borough. \n  \nAfter nearly 50 years at the heart of the community\, Lewisham Shopping Centre is set to be demolished and rebuilt by Landsec along with 1\,749 new homes – just 16% of which will be ‘affordable’\, only 98 will be available for social rent. \n10\,000 households are on waiting lists\, and 2\,800 households face homelessness. \nIt’s potentially the end of an era – both for the centre and the people of Lewisham. \nLEWISHAM IS NOT FOR SALE \nOver 3000 Lewisham residents have signed a petition to reject the redevelopment proposal. \nThe Save Lewisham Shopping Centre campaign marks the beginning of a borough-wide movement driven by collective frustration and empowerment to bring an end to private property developers exploiting the desire for affordable\, quality housing. JOIN US! \n
