DESCRIPTION:This evening session is a celebration of the stunning developments in Roots Reggae 50 years ago; from Lee Perry and King Tubby’s dubs to deep roots vocalists and instrumentalists. Running tings will be the 4 horsemen\, all of whom are aficionados of this style and period.  \nSoft Wax has been selecting Roots Reggae since the mid 70s. He remembers the release of “Super Ape” and “War Ina Babylon” as life changing. Since then he has plied his craft sporadically across London town\, around the country and across the Herring Pond. He will be familiar to regulars at Deptford Dub Club. One of our closest amigos\, his sets are always wicked. For this session he’ll be focusing on Lee Scratch Perry’s output from the mighty Black Ark studio in general\, as well as the gargantuan Super Ape in particular. \nDrop da Biscuit is another mainstay of the D.D.C. and is a familiar\, much respected presence on the London Revive scene. He rarely leaves his yard without the tunes\, that are our focuses tonight\, in his boxes. He also creates the popular and influential Drop da Biscuit podcasts.. We’re thrilled to announce young lioness Dirt Bike Dub as an addition to the bill. She’s equally wedded to this era’s music and vibes\, the vibrant Edie is another hardcore Lee Scratch Perry fan and will be digging deep tonight. \nAs ever\, the tunes will be supplemented by live action\, on the mic\, from our residents. The mighty Singjay Doc Murdoc is absolutely guaranteed to nice up any dance; his style and fashion epitomizes the mid-70s style of toasting. The D.D.C. Horns\, led by Tombone of The Dub Pistols. It is expected that we will have special guest singers and players live and direct\, too. Earlier in the evening we’ll be playin’ our usual eclectic mix of music of Jamaican origin including Rocksteady and Ska. \nThere’ll also be live mixes from the great Prince Fatty on the desk\, throughout the session. We’re looking forward to another blinding evening inside\, with the music piped out to the glorious garden too. Come on down to our celebration of the 50th anniversary of “Super Ape”. DESCRIPTION:This year our favourite community arts festival Brockley Max will be celebrating their 25th year with a outdoor show in our garden.  Local hero and internationally acclaimed artist Theon Cross will be returning to the Fox & Firkin to headline the event. \nTheon Cross is one of those rare musicians whose vision has redefined their instrument. The creative power and originality of Theon’s playing has reinvented the tuba’s place in modern music. Exploring the tuba’s possibilities in the light of diasporic bass culture\, Theon has worked to develop the full sonic spectrum of his instrument\, transforming it into a total 21st century sound-system\, powered by breath. Using the instrument’s ability to produce sub-sonics\, bass\, mids\, and tops\, Theon creates complete sound-worlds\, building up from rhythm and bass to arrive at melody. With this expanded low-end theory as his base\, Theon approaches his music with a sensibility that travels freely across outernational style and genre\, but which remains deeply rooted in his own African-Caribbean heritage.  Theon released his first EP Aspirations in 2015 followed by his first album FYAH in 2019 and the Intra-I in 2021. He was a key member of Sons of Kemet until their dissolution in 2022. He has featured on albums by The Smile\, Little Simz\, Steamdown\, Makaya McCraven\, Joy Crookes\, Ill Considered to name a few and contributed his version of Thelonious Monk’s Epistrophy to the Blue Note Re:Imagined series. \nAlso performing on the day will be the captivating neo-soul singer-songwriter HillaryNX\, celebrated for her powerful live performances.
