DESCRIPTION:After a hiatus of over a decade\, Abakush is back. Back with a new look\, new brand\, new tunes\, renewed energy\, but still carrying the same powerful message. \nThis predominantly female 9-piece group from Brixton was formed in 1981 by a group of like- minded individuals. They originally performed as Abacus\, which evolved into Abakush and now Kush Abakush – ‘Abba’ of Aramaic origin – the common word for father in modern Hebrew and ‘Kush’ representing the Motherland. \nWhilst Abakush is widely considered a reggae group\, they incorporate elements of Jazz\, Soca and Gospel into their sound. \n \n \n

DESCRIPTION:We’re thrilled to be hosting a session that will coincide with the World Cup Final. \nThe structure and timimgs will be affected by that. Selector Becca and Empress Khalila will be representing the Vinyl Sistas\, in fine style\, early in the evening. They’ll be followed by resident selector Soft Wax\, who will present a special early Summer selection. As ever\, our MC for the evening will be the mighty Doc Murdoc\, who will be showcasing his usual unique Singjay-style chants to supplement the evening. \nThe D.D.C. Horns crew will be providing their usual Iive licks combining live performances with pre-recorded vintage vinyl. Drop da Biscuit will bring his usual mix of roots\, rockers and rocksteady from his musical basket to nice up the crowd. A mainstay of the reggae revival scene\, Mikey also hosts the Drop da Biscuit podcast.
