SUMMARY:Wah Wah Live: Kotoa + Him & Earl
DESCRIPTION:Soulful independent record label Wah Wah 45s return to the Fox & Firkin for the second in their new series of live focussed events celebrating this eclectic and always forward thinking imprint that has been running for over 27 years! \nOn Friday June 5th\, Wah Wah 45s present a very special live double-bill! \nCelebrating the release of their new single\, Love & Light\, released that very day\, Kotoa are a 5 piece band from Loughborough Junction\, South East London\, made up of drummer Laurie Campling\, bassist Frank Black\, keyboard player Sam Hillier\, guitarist and vocalist Memphis Koloi & saxophonist and vocalist Maia Avery. \nHaving signed to Wah Wah 45s in 2025\, Kotoa brings a refreshing sound\, blending political rhetoric\, soulful melodies & heavy bass lines. Deeply influenced by dub\, trip-hop & the recent rise of African inspired jazz\, Kotoa are a rising force in Brixton’s historic music scene. \nFollowing on from the success of their first Earthwise EP\, and their cover version of Fela Kuti’s Zombie\, which received support from Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio 6 Music and Worldwide FM\, this exciting young outfit present their brand new single\, entitled Love & Light\, taken from the forthcoming Out of the Dark EP. Produced by revered musician and engineer Benedic Lamdin (Nostalgia 77) it’s an uplifting yet provocative EP that seamlessly shifts between Afrobeat\, dub\, jazz and deep soul. \n\nSinger-songwriter Olly Him and DJ\, producer and composer Wyndham Earl both have deeply-dug roots in the south coast of England\, with the former making his name as a solo artist before exploring his soulful folk sound with a number of live acts\, and the latter collaborating on albums and sharing stages with Bonobo\, Khruangbin\, Alice Russell and TM Juke\, having remixes released by Tru Thoughts and Mr Bongo Records\, and releasing his solo projects on his Time Spun imprint. \nThe pair first met in 2015 when Wyndham produced some songs for now defunct hypnotic Afro-folk outfit Creatures Of The Deep\, of which Olly was a founder member. They instantly clicked\, but after the group broke up it wasn’t until some years later that serendipity brought them back together. A chance encounter at a gig led the duo to reignite their fire for working together\, and they began to hatch plans to make a full album under the name of Him & Earl with Olly writing the songs and Wyndham arranging and producing the project. \nWith its sonorous yet strangely uplifting and mellifluous feel\, their forthcoming full-length debut\, entitled Falling Backwards\, is a mystic brew of desert blues\, English folk\, Americana and stirring southern soul\, with tentacles stretching out into psychedelia and prog. \nThe double LP officially drops on June 26th\, but signed advance vinyl copies will be available on the night!

SUMMARY:ShadeINDIGO hosted by Cherise
DESCRIPTION:ShadeINDIGO (founded by Jazz/Soul vocalist CHERISE) and the Fox and Firkin come together for a collaborative series of live showcases\, with a shared belief in spotlighting excellent musicians who create with purpose and passion. Rooted in community and craft\, these events celebrate emerging talent in a great night of live music!   On our first installation we have 2 exciting artists: \nBen Cipolla is a singer and guitarist whose music blends soulful vocals\, jazzy textures\, and acoustic pop warmth. Like Nick Drake\, he brings melodic subtlety and quiet intensity to his playing\, while echoing John Martyn’s adventurous textures and Jack Johnson’s easygoing charm. His versatile repertoire spans jazz standards\, bossa nova classics\, and reimagined pop favourites\, keeping a natural fusion of genres at the heart of his sound. Based in Bristol and inspired by his Sicilian heritage\, Cipolla has released two acclaimed albums\, including Casa Mia\, and is preparing his third for release in 2026. \nPianist and composer Emily Tran is one of the most exciting young jazz artists emerging from the London scene. Since joining the ever-growing community of Tomorrow’s Warriors\, she has developed a versatile musical voice and has played in a range of ensembles in venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall\, Ronnie Scott’s and the Barbican. She has arranged and played for the Nu Civilisation Orchestra and wrote the original score for BBC Radio 3’s ‘Gatsby in Harlem’\, which won 3 awards at the British Audio Awards\, one being the prestigious Audio of The Year. Alongside playing with other artists\, her solo project\, The Emily Tran Quintet\, is a sonic collage of influences \, shedding light on her varied musical upbringing – from playing piano and organ in the Vietnamese Church as a child\, to more recently studying classical composition at the Royal Academy of Music. Their self-titled debut album (Secret Night Gang)\, released in 2021/2022 on Brownswood Recordings\, earned the band nominations for Breakthrough Act of the Year at the Jazz FM Awards and Track of the Year at the Worldwide FM Awards. That same year\, SNG joined Khruangbin on their UK/EU Tour\, further cementing their reputation as a formidable live act. In 2023/2024\, the group unveiled their second album\, “Belongs on a Place Called Earth\,” and performed sold out shows at prestigious venues— Ronnie Scott’s\, the Jazz Cafe\, and Jasmine Poland—as well as major festivals including North Sea Jazz\, Montreux Jazz\, and Primavera Sound. They also served as support for Cory Wong on his UK tour in 2023. \nGigi Wilde \nIn July 2025 Gigi Wilde released her second EP titled ‘Life at the Kitchen Table’. The 7 track project is a re-introduction to Gigi after her debut EP last year ‘Big Picture’. “The project is a statement on the small moments that build us\, represented by the idea of a kitchen table – somewhere where you can have tender moments\, blazing rows\, parties and everything in-between. It’s a metaphor that emphasises the beauty and the cinematic in the everyday.”  \nThe song themes range from grief\, to celebration\, to queer identity and the mundane\,  tied together by a threading narrative of hosting; welcoming someone into the intimate space that is your home and exploring each other’s perspectives.
