We’re absolutely thrilled, Deptford Dub Club and Firkin Brewery present June All-Day, Reggae Mini-Festival will be co-headlined by Jerry Dammers. Founder of the mighty Specials and the 2 Tone Record Label, Jerry is a total legend, whose achievements with that band and subsequently probably need little introduction. Suffice it to say that 1981 was a critical year for Deptford and for many Jerry’s No. 1 single “Ghost Town” was the sound of that year. He also wrote and performed “Free Nelson Mandala”, spearheading the meteoric Birthday Celebration at Hyde Park. Jerry Dammers promises us a “personal Revival selection.”
Our other headliner is the great Wassie One. Wassie is a long-time stalwart of the London Roots Reggae scene and always plays up a storm. Whether in a full, traditional Soundsystem contexts, or in club environments, he can be relied upon to produce the goods. The mighty Wassie spins a rich and wide spectrum of music of Jamaican origin, from Ska and Rocksteady “Gram Favourites”, to the hardest Roots Reggae. He’s also consistently, highly, entertaining chatting on the mic., whilst simultaneously spinning da riddims.
There’ll be an afternoon, family friendly session in the spacious, secluded garden, followed by an indoor, Soundsystem style session, ‘til late. The afternoon will commence with a warm up selection from Mr.Wax. We’re delighted that he’ll be followed by Vandorta. She’ll be familiar to anybody that frequents Sounds of the Universe and has performed here before as part of the Soul Jazz Soundsystem. The vibrant Annabelle exudes positive vibes and can be relied upon for a scintillating Reggae Revive set, presented with style.
Following Vandorta, will be Mr. Dammers. Then there will be more of the semi-live action for which the Club is known, with some fresh Dubplate action. Soft Wax will be spinnin’ the rhythms. On the mic there will be toasting and singjay action, live and direct, from the mighty Doc Murdoch. There will also be live instrumentation from our fresh, new, Horn Section, led by Tombone and featuring Natty. There’ll be extra special guest vocalists too. We’re looking forward to another blinding evening inside with Wassie One and live mixes from the great Prince Fatty on the desk, throughout.
We will entertain you with music of Jamaican origin, of the highest order, throughout this session. From Ska, through Rocksteady, to classic Roots and on to contemporary Steppers. All spun in traditional Soundsystem style. So reach early and ensure that you catch Jerry, in the glorious garden. We’ll be moving indoors and warming up the big, deep and full dub machine from 8 and running through til 1. Skanking is a feature of this session, in this convivial boozer; put on your dancing shoes, for this edition of our season of All-dayers at The Fox and Firkin.
