Free before 9pm £3 after
The Deptford Dub Club came together organically in early 2014. Soft Wax had been putting on popular Roots Reggae, Rocksteady and Ska nights elsewhere in S. E. London for years, but sought a better venue. A niche was found when they happened upon an “off the beaten track” venue, in Deptford. The name was obvious, as soon as Jamtone suggested it. Since then we’ve moved to The Fox and Firkin and extended our hours to 8 ‘til 2.
The resident selector at The D. D. C., Soft Wax has brought together a stable of reggae stalwarts. Joining them as guests are talents chosen from: d’Oxman, Gladdy Wax, Wassie One, Duke Neville, Moa Anbessa, Manasseh, Ras Jammy, David Katz, Dub Plate Pearl, Steady C., Ras Danny Mosiah and Mikey and Kingsley of R.A.V. Hi Fi..
Our resident MC Singjay spars Setondi Spirit and Ras Darun, are both integral to the D.D.C.; as are live instrumentalists, all enhancing proceedings. Our residents are Tim Topcat and Will Roper and guests have included, “Officer” Dibble, Rosie, Leeroy Horns, Jas on Reeds and Laura Trombone. We approach every night with a spirit of adventure, with live, improvised accompaniments and mixing.
Extra-special guest performers have included Tessa ( from The Slits ) and Addis Pablo ( son of Augustus.)
The D. D. C. crew spans a wide diversity of backgrounds and ages, like our audience – we no check for no ism schisms. We’ve all been into the music for years and most of us are locals. We’ll all be at the D. D. C., playing or not, coz we check for the tunes and the vibes. That’s what the focus of the D. D. C. is all about, creating a vibe that is simultaneously up for it, plus relaxed and super warm. Put on your dancing shoes.
