Gaz Mayall DJ’s and hosts London’s longest running one-nighter Gaz’s Rockin Blues. He occasionally plays live with his ska band The Trojans. He first began Gaz’s Rockin’ Blues in July 1980 after a few guest appearances at the Two-Tone club, Oxford Street in 1979.
The eldest son of Blues legend John Mayall, Gaz was raised on a musical diet of R&B and was dragged around every beat, pop & rock festival and venues throughout the sixties as a child. First becoming a lifelong fan of reggae as a kid on the football terraces in the skin head era circa 1968-72.
Gaz began collecting records aged 17, bulk buying cheap reggae and ska collections down street markets such as Portbello road and Brick Lane at a time when it seemed no one wanted them.
Also a great fan of boogie woogie, rock’n’roll, traditional Irish music, funk and world music, Gaz, heavily influenced by a family friend, Radio One DJ and blues musician Alexis Korner, pursued his love of music in earnest and now has a world famous collection of predominantly black dance music ranging from the first tribal drum beats to the latest drum&bass.
Live acts:
Best known for their raucous live sets, the band fronted by the enigmatic Barbara Pugliese have become a staple of various festivals and club nights over the course of their career. With members originating from Italy, Latvia and London, it’s no surprise Barbarella’s Bang Bang have such a diverse and multicultural group of influences from South and East European Folk to classical punk rock.
‘These bohemians play surf like Dick Dale founded The Meteors, but this time they’re fronted by The Slits’ Ari Up’.
By Simon Tucker [Louder Than War]
‘This is the music Wednesday Addams would have made if she grew up and started a band, full of threat, charm, malevolence and the kind of swagger most pop stars can only dream of. There’s a hand-clap breakdown and the kind of bass line that Johnny Cash would have killed a man for, all-in-all it’s a whole heap of fun’.
East London-born Identical twins Polly and Sophie Duniam are an all-singing, all-dancing turbo-charged duo truly not giving a fuck all over Europe and the UK. Mashing-up cockney-style delivery, rap, supercatchy lyrics and bass driven beats with razor-sharp mirrored choreography, they call this a Cabarave.
For the last six years they’ve toured extensively including top slots at Glastonbury, BoomTown, Illusive and Symmetry, and festivals and clubs in Switzerland, France, Holland, Portugal, Italy and Germany.
My Bad Sister are a truly unforgettable live act… a must see!
The brainchild and long term project of Camberwell survivor Dave Ashby. Brewing from the ever-growing South London scene, Sleaze capture the sound of frustration every man, woman and child feels towards our country’s repulsive politicians, imploding economy and bacterial gastro-pubs.
8pm- 4am / £10 pre-sale tickets or 15 on the door!
