Join us for an incredibly exciting episode of On the Rocks at the Fox and Firkin where this time we’ve hand picked 5 of the most exciting live bands on the London circuit headlined by none other than Chartreuse. The fun doesn’t stop there as we have our resident DJ pulling out all the indie bangers you’ll need to be dancing right the way through to 3AM. Let’s meet the bands:
Chartreuse:
On their long-awaited debut album Morning Ritual, Chartreuse have found light in the darkness, sifting through the ruins of an anxious age in order to find hope in it. “There’s a strange optimism in pulling all your negative traits out, revising & reviewing them, then putting them back, in order,” says Mike Wagstaff. Chartreuse resist easy definition. The Black Country four-piece have been close friends since they were at college. In 2013, Mike & Harriet Wilson started playing folk music together and a year later, they added a rhythm section, with the addition of Mike’s brother Rory on drums & Perry Lovering on bass.
Workdo:
Workdo: the culmination of actors, directors and producers. Initially operating under the name Everything And Paris, Workdo started life as a two-piece recording together in a lounge in Kent. Noah Weatherby (vocals, guitar) and Courtland Adams (guitar) soon recruited Ethan Reid (bass) and Ivo Bright (drums) to complete the lineup. Drawing inspiration from the early-2000s indie scene and modern punk in equal measure, their music is a blend of catchy hooks, driving rhythms, and raw, emotive vocals.
Red Ivory:
Red Ivory are a 4 piece indie rock band from South East London with a “contemporary take on 90s grunge” – DIY magazine. Formed in late 2021, the music incorporates strong basslines, melodic vocals, “big riffs and whiplash drums”. Their debut EP “Façade” is out now
Friktion:
Comprised of Jakob, hailing from the dual landscapes of America and Sweden, Ben representing Brighton, and Louis bringing his Texan roots to the streets of London, Friktion is a convergence of diverse backgrounds and boundless creativity. Together, they craft irresistibly catchy tunes that defy convention and compel you to move.
The Pluto’s:
Having been described by early fans as akin to Kruangbin, London holds it’s breath for the first gig of newly formed the Pluto’s and we’re delighted to host it here at the Fox. They’ll be talking about this one for a long time to come.
