On the Rocks is back at the Fox and Firkin bringing you some of the finest gems of South London’s burgeoning underground scene. Let’s meet the bands:
PREGOBLIN:
“PREGOBLIN II is, despite what its title might suggest, the debut album from South London musician and songwriter Alex Sebley. Sebley himself is enjoying the sequel to a career that started on the fringes of Fat White Family – he was in FWF’s forerunner The Saudis with Lias and Nathan Saoudi and lived with them in Loughborough Junction, South London – but has since developed in a new and completely different direction as PREGOBLIN. The album’s a refreshingly open experience, both in terms of its highly personal lyrics and a musical palate that takes influence from 70s AOR as well as punk, folk and a whole lot more. No wonder the likes of Jessica Winter and Pete Doherty wanted to be involved…”
Duck wax:
“Uniquely undefinable – the genre-blending sound of Peckham’s own Duck Wax has been electrifying crowds since day one. From playing numerous sold-out shows across London staple venues such as The Windmill, MOTH CLUB, Jaguar Shoes Collectives; and packing out the Oslo, Hackney for their “Blue Tiles, White Tiles” single-release, the band have embedded themselves as a local must-see. Endlessly fun rock-funk fusion with a soft edge, this is a band with the power to define a night.”
Doublecream:
Between gruelling shifts cooking burgers at a pub in South London, the eccentric characters of Doublecream tumble downstairs to a slapdash basement, where they rehearse, record, party and occasionally sleep.
Oh Diana (Who’s Your Daddy Now?) is the latest product of this disgusting ritual. A tale of modern love and a reflection of the promiscuity and hedonism in London’s underground music scene, told whilst paying reverence to countercultural musical traditions of 60s psychedelia and 70s glam-rock.
