SUMMARY:Dur-Dur Band International
DESCRIPTION:There was a time when Mogadishu\, the capital of Somalia\, was often referred to as the “pearl of the Indian Ocean.” Before Dictator Mohamed Siad Barre was ousted in 1991 and the country plunged into civil war\, it was a beautiful\, cosmopolitan city with the nightlife and bands like Dur Dur to soundtrack it. Today\, it’s a scarred place under persistent threat from the country’s still-powerful religious militias and al-Shabaab suicide bombers. \nDur Dur Band it’s the name originally taken by 80’s Mogadishu Somalia Funk\, Disco\, Soul Band that was later disbanded in the early 90s\, unable to continue playing in their city\, Dur-Dur Band broke up and scattered abroad. Their competition did too\, and the cinemas\, studios\, hotels and theatres that once played host to their music closed\, or were forced to. In 2006\, Mogadishu was briefly dominated by Islamic extremists who attempted to outlaw music. The place where this music was made is still listed on the map as though nothing changed\, but it’s not the same city today as it was in 1987. These music recordings are a superb glimpse of what was and what’s been lost. \nDur Dur Band International as it’s known now is the regrouping of some of the original Dur Dur Band founding members such as the legendary bass player Abdillahi Ujerry\, also Mohamaed Karama\, Qomal\, Omar Teesiyow including the legendry Iftin Band musi- cians Saleh Hariri\, Nabil\, Ali Atore\, Yusuf Nagi and Said Hussein from Waaberi National Band with the phenomenon vocalist Fadumian Hilowle with a repertoire of Funky Oldies and contemporary compilations of the best in Somali Funk. \nDur Dur Band became famous 1980s in Somalia with the lead singers such as; Sahra Dawo\, Pastow\, Eddi\, Shimali\, Qoma\, Baastow and other vocalists\, and have taken by storm in Somali pop culture and were very popular in neighbouring countries: Ethiopia\, Djibouti and Kenya\, until the civil war broke out in Somali 1991\, and was later based in Addis Ababa venues\, in Ethiopia. \nMany of the Somali musicians had fled the country to seek sanctuaries outside Somali a mainly in East Africa and Europe and at the time many had been executed or killed by the religious factions for their love of music art and culture.\n*Dur Dur also means “spring” in Somali. London based 8 piece Somali Funk Band\, Dur Dur Band International is currently the only Somali Live Music Band in the world re-vived by Mr Liban Noah. And have since toured all over Europe including in the Scandinavian\, Germany\, Holland and UK. \nSomali people are oral society and often express their feelings and anxieties through poems\, singing\, dancing music and drama story telling. \n

SUMMARY:Da Lata
DESCRIPTION:A high-energy fusion of Afro-Brazilian rhythms\, soul\, jazz-funk\, and trip hop. \nHaving just celebrated their 25th anniversary London’s original global groove trailblazers come to the Fox for the first time on the back of their acclaimed 2025 album ‘Edge Of Blue’. \nDa Lata’s Edge Of Blue not just a return\, but a new beginning\, North London tropicalia born out of the alchemy of longing. Never before have Da Lata woven their many strands so sweetly\, blending their diverse influences with the musical personalities of their extended family into a collection of songs that speak of struggle\, survival\, and ultimately hope. \n  \n \nDa Lata is the brainchild of producer Chris Franck and DJ/broadcaster Patrick Forge\, Da Lata emerged from the vibrant intersection of London club culture and Brazilian influence in the late ‘90s. They combine world-influences with the melting pot of their native city\, carving out a space that was equal parts sun-drenched and rhythmically global. \nKnown for deeply spiritually uplifting live shows and a long list of heavyweight collaborators\, from Tony Allen to Jhelisa\, Bernie Worrell to Mayra Andrade\, Da Lata’s return is both a homecoming and a celebration of one of the UK’s most iconic and enduring musical forces.

SUMMARY:LILA invites... Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy + more
DESCRIPTION:Rinse FM resident and Brighter Days Family member\, LILA\, takes over the Fox & Firkin this November for a night exploring the depths and offshoots of soulful\, disco and deep house flavours. Led by the legendary selector and curator Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy\, alongside a selection of incredible DJs from the new generation of soulful sounds. This is a multi-generational party where the dance floor and sound matter most. Come with your comfiest shoes! \nLINEUP: \nColleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy / LILA / FELIXCW / KOJAY / Juno \nAs testimonials go\, this one provided by Vinyl Factory when discussing Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy takes some beating: “The biggest heroes of the underground typically wouldn’t describe themselves as such. Frankie Knuckles\, Kelli Hand\, Andrew Weatherall… all possessed a humility that made them even more honourable and endearing\, and they went about their business with little regard for fame and a distaste for industry bulls**t. Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy falls firmly into this category.” \nWhether she’s DJing at her Love Dancin’ sound system at We Out Here\, musically hosting the Loft parties\, curating a Classic Album Sundays event at the Royal Albert Hall\, presenting her weekly Balearic Breakfast radio show or remixing The Cure and Secret Night Gang\, there’s always an abundance of impulses bubbling away. \n \n

SUMMARY:King Ayisoba
DESCRIPTION:Traditional music dug up from the future \nBorn in 1974\, near Bolgatanga northeast Ghana\, King Ayisoba plays Kologo (small guitar with two strings attached to a calabash) from a young age. He took care of livestock and carries his instrument in the bush and villages where he discovered traditional harmonic \, ceremonies and ancestral rites! \nHe joined the capital and plunged into the Accra cosmopolitan urban jungle\, and a draft style between tradition and modernity. He met Terry Bonchaka whom he worked with for several years and Panji Anoff the music producer . His first album « Modern Ghanians « was recorded in 2006 The album was immediately welcomed by the Ghanaian public. The single « I want to see you my father» won the Ghana Music Awards in 2007\, King was invited to participate in numerous collaborations. He continues in the same aesthetic \, fusing electronic beats with his gravelly voice\, with traditional instruments. He became one of Ghana’s artists who exports himself the most out of the African continent. In 2008\, King released his second album\, «Africa « and he played in Europe (Sweden \, Norway\, Denmark \, Holland\, Germany \, Russia \, UK \, Belgium\, France \, Switzerland… ) alongside Arnold de Boer aka Zea \, lead singer of the Ex group and producer of the label Makkum Records. They set out a compilation LP from the last two albums in 2012. The band performed at numerous festivals \, and was noticed at Roskilde Festival (Denmark ) and Fusion Festival (Germany) …! \nThe world of King Ayisoba is unique and complex. The rhythms and frenzied dancing mingle with its distinctive voice \, alternately smooth and suave turn\, then rocky and tribal . Their concerts are unique experiences where musical codes are shattered in a raw energy delivered bluntly . King Ayisoba offers a world where the spirit world merges with the painful origins of Kologo music\, concrete and urban Hip Life \, and the cries of a rebellious youth who is still seeking his identity. Trance between the mystical forest and concrete cracked Accra.
