Description

South East London promoters, Sketches, put high-energy, dance-floor orientated jazz alongside broken beat and house DJs in late-night parties. This time they bring WheelUP Golden Mean for live performances.

Golden Mean: Powerhouse drummer Jamie Murray now joins the lineup of Tom Driessler (Yussef Kamaal), Luke Wynter (Nubiyan Twist, Joe Armon-Jones) and Lyle Barton (Emma-Jean Thackray). Prepare to embark on a journey of soaring melodies, driving grooves, prog-rock choruses, retro synths and free-wheeling improvisation, inspired by the legends of jazz & rock from the 70’s till today.

WheelUP: Journeying through broken beat, jazz-funk, hip-hop, trap, bass, house, neo-soul and beyond, across the album’s eleven tracks, WheelUP embarks on a sonic exploration filled with synthesis, polyrhythms and creative innovative techniques. Talking about the concept of ‘We Are The Magic’, Danny explains: “It’s a somewhat esoteric idea that we (humanity) are the magic of life, whether that is a smile from a stranger that uplifts another person or some piece of kindness that has a butterfly effect and affects someone or something else in a positive way. Magic is excitement, the spark of life and life itself is a magical experience.”

And on selection, Sketches brings crate diggers Donna Leake with her unique selection drawing from Latin jazz, reggae, jazz fusion and psych, and Vandorta with a particular ear for all things funky.
