Founded in London in 1989, Mr Bongo Records b segan as a small record shop before evolving into a globally respected label known for its love of Brazilian music, Latin grooves, rare funk, jazz, soul, disco, boogie, and deep crate-digging culture. From reissuing forgotten classics to releasing contemporary artists who carry the same spirit, Mr Bongo’s sound is rooted in dancefloor joy.
Two years later, in 1991 Soul Jazz Records, came into existence and built a legendary reputation for documenting and reshaping underground music culture. Equally at home with reggae, dub, jazz, funk, soul, hip hop, house, and punk, the label is best known for its iconic compilations that map entire musical movements — from Studio One reggae to New York post-punk and UK street soul.
