Seckou Keita & The Homeland Band

Sunday, 6th July @ 2:00 pm

Seckou Keita & The Homeland Band - Photo by Ollie Denton

Seckou Keita is a renowned Kora virtuoso who stands as a luminary amongst African traditional musicians. Hailing from Southern Senegal, his journey from a gifted child to a globally recognised musician has been nothing short of remarkable.

With this show, Seckou’s magical 22-string kora is perfectly integrated into an electrifying set which often bursts into euphoric, percussive dance tracks infused with infectious rhythms. This show will move the audience emotionally and physically through a unique crossover sound, embracing Senegalese music, afro-pop, urban and hip-hop. Transitional musical poetry written and delivered by award-winning poets is beautifully woven into the music, making this a one-of-a-kind live experience.

Together they will perform Seckou’s latest album, Homeland: Chapter 1, as well as some of his best known songs specially rearranged for this show. The Homeland band won’t just keep the audience on their tours, they’ll bring them to their feet!

“By the second number, the audience was on the move, dancing, singing, clapping, whooping, letting the rhythms guide their feet and smiles light their hearts.” – Songlines.
